Minsk is often compared with the phoenix. The city with almost thousand years of history had been burnt to the ground but rose again from the ruins. Everything has changed here in a hundred years. Buildings, population, name (only 70 years ago the city was called Miensk) and the status (Minsk became the capital of the country).

Nowadays Minsk is a modern city but if you look carefully it is possible to find the signs of the ancient city among the current buildings of last 50 years.

The best place to get acquainted with history of Minsk is Liberty square where the oldest churches of the city, the restored city hall and the Gostiny Dvor is situated. Brhind the walls of these buildings a lot of interesting stories and legends from the life of old Minsk are hidden.   

If you want to see the modern city in proper perspective we offer you to drive along the Independence Avenue beginning with the biggest square of Minsk with the same name. Pompous soviet architecture took a root among the city buildings of the first part of the long time ago and looks really organic. Here you will also find a lot of historic material and curious stories due to the past century that gave a many topics for discussion. 

Contemporary symbol of Minsk is the building of the National Library that is built in the shape of faceted diamond. There is an opportunity to go on an excursion along the library halls as well as to go up on a roof of the building and to see a magnificent picture of the city from the observation deck.

Finally we will visit almost unknown but very interesting museum under the open sky – the museum of boulders. Hundreds of huge stones are hiding the legends and stories from all over the Belarus inside of them.
