In the heart of Polesye

The rout: Minsk –Lahišyn – Motal – Pinsk – Turaŭ – Liaskavičy – Minsk.

Length: 800 km.

Duration: 2 days

Palessie is one of the most mysterious and unexplored regions of Europe. The trends of civilization almost haven’t touched these lands; they sunk in endless marshes and forests. Thanks to that the people of Polesye saved their authentic culture, traditions, myths, rites and architecture. Such archaism and antiquity didn’t preserve anywhere else in Europe. We offer you a two-day tour in the heart of Belarusian Polesye that will help you to reveal some of the secrets of these unusual lands.

Your acquaintance with Poleśśie will begin with small village Lahišyn where ancient icon of God’s Mother is kept. This icon is often called “the Queen of Paleśśie”. It is situated in a beautiful catholic church of St. Peter and Pavel that is built in gothic revival style.

If you want to know better the living traditional culture of Paleśśie it is not enough just to see some architect monuments, it is necessary to visit the famous museum of traditional culture of Paleśśie. This museum is situated in village Motal. In this museum you will know how the people of Poleśśie lived long time ago.

Pinsk is unofficially considered the capital of Paleśśie. And not for nothing. The historic center of this city has preserved very well. The big building of JesuitCollegium is the main decoration of the city center. The museum of Paleśśie is now situated inside of collegium. While walking along the streets of the city we will see a catholic church and a Franciscans’ monastery. Together they form one of the largest baroque architectural ensembles in Belarus.

On the second day of our excursion we will explore the lands of Turaŭ. The city used to be one of the largest centers of religious and scientific life in Rus. Now Turaŭ is a small town on the border of Pripyat national park. There is nothing left in it from the former mightiness. However if you look carefully you will find some curious things. For example a foundation of the church of XII century that was dug out a few years ago on ancient Turaŭ settlement. Or a stone cross that has been proudly growing from the ground for already 10 years on the local cemetery where Kirill Turaŭski and St. Boris and Gleb are considered to be buried. Or a little hundred years old church of All the Saints where two crosses of 2 meters height have been kept in Turov for thousand years.

Paleśśie is famous not only for its ancient history. The main treasure of this region is the nature. Prypiać National Park offers you a range of exclusive services. For example a small voyage along the Pripyat, safari, the museum of nature and a stroll to 600 year old oak. It is up to you what to choose
